Tonight being Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, I just wanted to wish everyone a happy and healthy New Year. L'Shanah Tovah! For a sweet year. Dip your apples in honey. I included a link for anyone interested in the history and rituals.

My headline is a bit of hyperbole, but not too far off target. In an outdoor Mass before 250,000 in Munich, Germany, His Holiness said that science and rational thought weakens our ability to accept the religious message. "Put simply, we are no longer able to hear God, there are too many frequencies filling our ears. What is said about God strikes us as pre-scientific, no longer suited for our age.” “People in Africa and Asia admire our scientific and technical prowess, but at the sam...

In the face of evidence presented at the Little Green Footballs blog site, Reuters has had to withdraw a photo that greatly exaggerated Israel's bombing of Beirut. The photo contained plumes of smoke and entire buildings that were "cloned" in Photoshop to exaggerate the severity of the damage. The falsified image: Go to Link to see how it was uncovered. Reuters retracted the image: You have to ask why Reuters published this photo in the first place. The photo was taken...

Six people were shot at the Seattle Jewish Center yesterday, one fatally, by a man who identified himself as a Muslim "angry at Israel." It was believed that the gunman acted alone. But two Mosques in the Seattle area have been investigated for ties to Al-Queda. The man entered the building on the Jewish Sabbath when few people are in the office. People wonder why Jews "play the anti-Semitism card." Could it be because people are always trying to kill us?

Hell, Michigan is planning a 666 celebration, be sure to make your reservations. I mean, you wouldn't want the party in Hell to start without you... If you think that no one has a worse sense of humor than me, well check this out: ******************************************************************** "Nobody is more fired up than John Colone, the town's self-styled mayor and owner of a souvenir shop. "I've got `666' T-shirts and mugs. I'm only ordering 666 (of the items) so once they're...

I am feeling old. As I read about the war, I seem to be asking myself more and more, "Which war is this again? Vietnam or Iraq?" We are fighting a war against an "Invisible enemy," one who blends into the civilian population that we are trying to protect. This enemy goes to lengths of brutality that seem impossible to combat. Remember the children lining up for candy only to be killed by a car bomb? See the reports of the dead found "executed" inside the nation's capitol? How do you convin...

It is amazing to me the amount of debate that there has been regarding the Dan Brown book and movie, when the real conspiracy by the Catholic Church goes seemingly unnoticed. The Catholic Church should be grateful for the Da Vinci Code books and movie because the furor surrounding those fictional events serves as a distraction from the true pattern of sexual abuse and concealment. In 2004, the Catholic Church in the United States received an internal report placing the substantiated alle...

Google has filed a complaint with the US Department of Justice and the European Union, complaining that IE7, which uses MSN as the default search engine, will give Microsoft an unfair advantage. Since Google is the default search engine for both Firefox and Opera, and pays those organizations for that position, in essence Google is complaining that Microsoft is acting like...well, like Google. The complaint is reminescent of Netscape and Real's complaint against Microsoft in the 1990's. Bo...

"In Search of Stupidity" by Merrill "Rick" Chapman is a must read for anyone in technology sales and marketing. It is laugh-out-loud funny, while at the same time accurate and factual. If you were in business, any business, in 1982 you read "In Search of Excellence: Lessons from America's Best Run Companies" by Thomas Peters and Robert Waterman. It was the "feel good" book for business managers and we, the yellow-power-tie wearing business managers of that era, carried it around the...

In 2002, Bill Gates set security as Microsoft's top priority. With the introduction of IE7 (currently in Beta 2) and Windows Live OneCare, Microsoft has come a long way toward fulfilling that promise. Why is it important that Microsoft has taken these steps? I have an anti-virus program that regularly updates itself, programs to protect me from adware and malware, a software firewall and a (relatively) secure browser for some time. Most power-users have these protections. But guess what? M...

I just posted an article on the Hamas' supported attack on civilians eating lunch in Tel Aviv and, while it made me feel better, it occured to me that nothing will come of it. I added the link, read it if you want, but in the end it hardly matters. There will be no marchs, no protests outside the Palestinian embassy, Cindy Sheehan won't camp on the President's door step demanding action. Oh, the usual people will make the usual remarks about condemning "violence against civilians" making s...

Whether for an individual, a nation or a people, there is no right more fundamental than the right of self-defense. We need to be able to defend ourselves in order to be able to excercise any other rights. Wikipedia defines self-defense as "Self-defense refers to actions taken by a person to defend onself, one's property or one's home." Now we get to the part where I can only offer SARCASM. Hamas exercised its' "right" to defend itself by murdering 9 people and injuring almost 50 ot...

"1 in 5 kids online is sexually solicited. Online predators know what they're doing. Do you?" read the public service ads that began running Monday. I hate to post just quotes, but in this case the story says it all. "Some 22 percent of users are registered as under 18, according to MySpace. The site forbids minors 13 and under from joining and provides special protections for those 14 and 15 -- only those on their friends' list can view their profiles. The company uses a compute...

Based on exit polls, Israel's newest party, the centrist Kadima party, is projected to win the largest number of seats in the Israeli Parliament. This will mark the first time since the 1970's that the Likud Party will not be the dominant force in Israeli politics. Kadima was formed by Ariel Sharon before his debilitating stroke left him in a coma. Sharon left the right-wing Likud party, which now falls to controlling the fourth largest block of seats in Parliament. Kadima favors the re...

Just after 9:30 PM this evening my father, Abraham Kuperman, died. He is survived by three children, his daughter Marilyn and sons Gil and Larry, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. My mother proceeded him in death. He was 97 years old. He touched the lives of many people with his warmth and humor and will be missed. Abraham was born in 1908, in Czarist Russia. His father, my grandfather, was in a prison camp in Siberia at the time of his birth. The family would emigrate to ...
